2/14 Light Horse Regiment (QMI) Association Inc.
The Association. The 2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) Association Inc [2/14LHR (QMI) Assn Inc.] is an Association of members, former members and friends of our Regiment which is now based at Gallipoli Barracks Enoggera. Although a young organisation, the Association is a keen and active supporter of the Regiment and supports the Commanding Officer and its members in any way it can. Both current and past serving members of the Regiment are invited to join the Association together with those who either have or had an association with a ‘black hat’ Regiment during their time of service. Various Classes of Membership are available, please refer to our Membership Application Form by following the link below for more information. The Regiment. The 2 nd /14 th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) with a lineage dating back to 1860, is part of 7th Brigade Australian Army. The 2 nd /14 th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) was formed in 1952, though it sentimentally traces its lineage back to 2nd Moreton Light Horse (QMI) and the 14 th West Moreton Light Horse (QMI). and arguably has the oldest lineage of any Australian Regular Army Unit. Over the years to meet the Army’s increased operational tempo, there have been many organisational changes based on both Regular and/or Reserve elements. In March 2005, the Regiment became a completely regular unit to meet the Army's increased operational tempo. Since this date elements of the regiment have made a number of operational deployments. 2 nd /14 th Light Horse Regiment (QMI) has contributed a number of Security Detachment (SECDET) rotations to Iraq. In 2006, A Squadron was deployed to Iraq to serve as part of the third rotation of the Al Muthanna Task Group which became the first rotation of Overwatch Battle Group (West). More recently the unit has contributed forces to the Australian Task Force in Afghanistan as part of Operation Slipper. In 2017, C Squadron converted to the tank role and was equipped with the M1A1 Abrams MBTs, whilst under Plan Keogh B Squadron returned to the cavalry role and was again equipped with the ASLAV. Current composition. Currently the Regiment is made up of: Regimental Headquarters (RHQ) A Squadron — Cavalry (equipped with CRV Boxer I) B Squadron — Cavalry (equipped with CRV Boxer II) C Squadron — Cavalry (equipped with the ASLAV) Support Squadron (multiple AFV platforms)
